East Gippsland News Weekend

2 Gippsland News Weekend | April 2025 Bream series heads to Mallacoota Round two of the 2025 Vic Bream Classic Series heads to Mallacoota from April 26-27 as the competition continues its 20-year celebrations. The series has injected more than $7 million into the East Gippsland region since 2005 with its annual events at Mallacoota, Metung and Marlo. Metung kicked off this year's competition back in March with Team Zero Technique's Josh Jeffrey and Connor Jackson taking the top prize. They will be hard to beat at Mallacoota, however won’t be without strong competition from a number of local anglers. Close to 60 teams entered for round one and with round two coming around the ANZAC Day long weekend, another strong showing is expected. More than 50 teams have already entered, including East Gippslanders Paul and Justin conn, Blair and Nikki Bryant, Steven and Lindsay Pryke, Allan Lavell and Rod Pardew, Stephen and Brett Campisi, Braddley and Harry Young, among others. "For 20 years the Vic Bream Classic Series has been providing a fun, inclusive and family friendly catch and release bream fishing tournament series throughout some of East Gippsland's most picturesque locations," tournament director Bill Hartsthorne said. "In 2025 the series is only going from strength to strength with more amazing sponsors than ever before and over $180,000 in cash and prizes up for the grabs. Many of the prizes are randomly drawn, so everyone has a chance to win some amazing prizes." Following round two Mallacoota the series returns to East Gippsland for round four at Marlo on August 16 and 17. The 2025 Vic Bream Classic grand final will head back to Metung (November, date to be confirmed), "Australia's premier bream fishing location" where the best 50 teams from across Australia will battle it out to be crowned the 2025 champions. The event weigh in is at 2pm on both Saturday and Sunday where you will see the quality East Gippsland bream on display in a new large display tank.
